• For a classic spring-loaded snap hook, it is recommended to orient the movable mechanism outwards and leave the smooth part facing the horse. This arrangement limits the risk of rubbing on the skin and reduces accidental openings.

• In the case of a safety snap hook, the release system must always remain accessible and directed outwards, never against the horse's head or chest. It is also important to regularly check that the mechanism slides freely and is not fouled.

• With a swivel snap hook, designed to prevent the lead rope from twisting, the attachment point should be on the horse's side and the swivel should remain free, without permanent tension. On a show lead, the attachment should allow for natural sliding, remaining well-aligned between the handler's hand and the attachment point, to avoid any angles or blockages.
